As you may or may not know, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim’s ‘Dawngaurd’ DLC was released awhile back exclusively for the Xbox 360. When it was released it was said (I’m not sure by whom) that the DLC would be released a month later for the PS3 and the PC, that it was only an Xbox exclusive for a short period of time. Now, things seem to have changed (or not, depending on how you look at it) and the DLC has no release date for other platforms at this time.
Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines tweeted yesterday (July 26):
“We have not announced Dawnguard for any other platform, nor given a timeline for any such news. If we have news, I promise I’d tell you.”
This statement has sent the gaming community into a tizzy and caused a lot of people to become angry. The community is now starting to think that the Dawngaurd DLC is to be an Xbox exclusive and will never be available on other platforms. This is not necessarily the case, no one at Bethesda has said that it will be an exclusive DLC or that it will never come to platforms. It just has yet to be announced.
It’s no secret that Skyrim’s launch on the PS3 was riddled with problems and annoyances for players, redering the game unplayable for some people. Others had to either suffer the bugs, lag, and other problems while waiting for a patch. Bethesda is still patching the PS3 version, almost nine months after the games launch last November. This could be why it’s being postponed and has yet to be given a date of release. There are plenty of other things it could be as well, maybe things that are not as well known.
It’s very unlikely that the Xbox 360 would get an exclusive DLC for Skyrim since that would segregate about half of the game’s fanbase. Game companies may not be perfect, but you’d be hard pressed to find one as notable as Bethesda who is willing to lose the respect and fandom of half their audience. If you wish to go the greedy route, I doubt they would want to miss out on an opportunity to make more money as well.
I say that until we know more, we need to sit back and relax. I’m sure Bethesda will release an official statement or date soon enough.
