LittleBigPlanet 2 To Be First Game With Cross-Controller Support

LBP2

More awesome news for LittleBigPlanet fans, LBP 2 will be the first game to feature Sony’s newest cool doodad Cross-Controller play. The Cross-Controller Pack is due out next Tuesday, but I’m sure by this time you are already thinking “What the flip is this Cross-Controller business?” Well, let me explain it to you.

The Cross-Controller feature allows players to use their PlayStation Vita as a controller on the PlayStation 3. I know right, that’s insane! That’s not all, not only can the Vita be used as a controller, all of it’s features such as front and rear touch will still be used. It doesn’t end there, the icing on the cake is that the Vita will provide a second screen to the game. So players can play through the PS3 on the TV using a Vita and all of it’s features plus a second screen.

The first game to support this feature, as I said above, will be LittleBigPlanet 2. I’m sure that wont be the only title to support this feature in the future though, so that’s good news. I personally can’t wait to see more using this feature, because it honestly looks super interacting and awesome. The Cross-Controller pack offers up a whole new adventure for you Sackboy in which he/she will team up with some cute Space Pirates on their journey to grab up some lost treasure through the cosmos. Sackboy will face new obstacles which can only be overcome through the use of the Cross-Controller feature. In addition to the new adventure, players will also be able to use the creation feature to make their own playable community maps that use the Cross-Controller feature.

The Cross-Controller pack will be available next Tuesday, December 18, for download on the PSn. It will set you back $4.99 and all you need is a PlayStation 3, a copy of LittleBigPlanet 2, and a PlayStation Vita.

LittleBigPlanet Karting Gets Release Date

Mike Buffaloe, community coordinator of LittleBigPlanet Karting, announced today that the game has been given a release date. That date is November 6th of this year. A new trailer for the game has also be released, it can be viewed at the bottom of this post.

As a bonus for pre-ordering the game, players will get this exclusive Kevin Butler sackboy costume and Executive golf kart:

Awesome, right? The release date is the same date as Halo 4, which is no problem for a PlayStation 3 exclusive, but a problem for my wallet since I’m already spending about $500 0n Halo 4 and I want this title really bad! Oh well, I’ll work it out. Now, the new LittleBigPlanet Karting trailer:

LittleBigPlanet Karting – First Look Interview

An interview with William Ho, design director of United Front Games, was released today giving us a first look at the new game LittleBigPlanet Karting.

You can watch the video for yourself here.

Ho describes LBP:K as a “Fun, fresh, karting adventure that puts you in a 3D craft world for the first time ever”. He also mentions that everything about the game is “authentically LBP”. LBP:K is, at it’s base, a karting game. You will be able to pick up and play, get into a race, and have fun. There is more to it though, other modes of the game are available such as battle mode, way-point mode, score attacks, treasure hunts, and many more. Players will be able to create and customize race modes as well. Ho says that everything in Mod Nation Racers will stay particular to Mod Nation Racers, LBP:K is it’s own game with it’s own dynamics – it will be no copy.

LBP:K will have a level editor where you will be able to make your own tracks and races for you, your friends, and the LBP world. Ho mentions that everyone familiar with the level editor in LittleBigPlanet 2 should feel comfortable with the level editor in this game, so the editing system isn’t too complicated or different from the other LBP games. You will be able to do all the awesome stuff you could in previous LittleBigPlanet games in this game, as far as making levels. Adding props, stickers, and all kinds of goodies is a staple – and now it will all be in full 3D. Weapons are available in races, stuff that you can shoot at your enemy to make them spin out or crash. You can use the ones provided in the game, make your own, and customize either.

As always, sackboy will be yours to customize as well. There are hundreds to thousands of parts you can customize with, making your sackboy one of a kind. And not only is your sackboy able to be dressed up - your kart is too! There are tons of body kits for your kart and stickers to put on them. That’s not all, there are tons of ways to customize. Ho brings up the fact that they added some fun things from the other LBP games, like slapping. You can drive past your opponent and slap them silly which will stun them. Also the grappling gun has been added so you can swing across gaps and all that good stuff, which may lead you to find shortcuts and score or prize bubbles.

Multiplayer will definitely be added. You will be able to play at home with your friends in a 4 player local match or online with friends or random people. This game is currently in development and is set to come out sometime in 2012.

Little Big Planet Karting coming to PS3 in 2012

So the ModNation Racers studio (United Front Games) and Media Molecule have put together a Little Big Planet themed racing game. This game will include straightforward cart racing, but also objective based missions, boss battles, and minigames. Like ModNation Racers, you will be able to customize your sackboy and the vehicle it drives, as well as much more. LBP Karting will also have Move wheel support for all you Move users out there.

Here is where it gets good: players will be able to make their own racing courses and share them with the world on the PlayStation Network – a la Little Big Planet. So basically this is going to be everything we love about games like Mario Kart and ModNation Racers mashed together with awesome game dynamics like in LBP. Sony has announced that this game will be coming out sometime this year, so be on the look out for it!
