Resident Evil 6 GamesCom 2012 Gameplay

GamesCom 2012 wielded some awesome gameplay footage for Resident Evil 6. Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Jake Muller all have new gameplay videos showing off the game as well as the difference between each character campaign.

In the Chris Redfield video, we see Chris and his team fight off a gigantic mutated snake in a grimy meat locker. The snake has a sort of cloaking ability, enabling it to hide in plain sight by appearing invisible until it’s about to strike. As it moves in for the kill, the player can see the glimmer of it’s skin and attack it before it strikes. Quicktime events are triggered as the snake ensnares Chris an attempts to constrict or even eat him. After the snake is damaged enough it retreats through a hole in the wall and Chris goes after it, only to be dragged through the vent while shooting the snake in order to release it’s grip. It leads you into another room and the video ends. Throughout the video we see the ease of switching it different weapons occurring as well as how the quicktime events differ from other games in which you press a button. You have to use the stick, buttons, and triggers to work your way out of danger. Chris’ gameplay is also obviously action based, which differentiates his gameplay from that of the other characters and their unique styles.

In the Leon Kennedy video, we see Leon walking through a dark underground subway. Shadows show that there are zombies up ahead and as you draw near you see that it’s way more than a few. Leon fights them off, triggering quicktime events as he misses and the zombies attempt to bite him. As he is fighting, the lights and horn of a subway train appear and it’s clear he must get off the tracks. The subway car runs over a few zombies, leaving only a handful left for Leon to fight. He then runs down the subway tracks until he finds the car, stopped, and soon shut down. The door on the car is locked, so his partner asks to be boosted up on the top of the car. As she climbs up, Leon has a look around the bottom as she unlocks the door for him. Walking through the car they hear a scream and run to see where it came from. As they run through the car, the dead bodies around them reanimate into zombies which attack. As they exit the train, Leon is attacked by a zombie wielding an axe. The zombie swings as the player is prompted to press a button which makes Leon counter the attack, grabbing the axe and chopping the zombie with it. As Leon makes his way onto the next rain platform the video ends. In this video we really see how dark and scary the Leon gameplay will be. It’s a classic horror game feeling, completely differing from the other character’s campaigns.

In the Jake Muller video, we see a brief cutscene in which Jake falls on top of his partner Sherry Birkin in a building as it becomes surrounded by attackers. These attackers are not zombies though, they are humans and they have guns, but not for long. Some of the men become transformed into creatures that have heads resembling giant crab claws and open up to bright orange bulbs which appear to be weak points. Other men still have guns so the player must fight off both as they mount a relentless attack. Jake and Sherry fight them off as more men come through the wall with explosives, opening up the room. The monster-like men are able to pick up a character and clamp them with the claw parts, and the player must move the stick on the controller back and forth rapidly to break free. Jake uses grenades to stun the attackers and then attack them back, smashing them against walls. Soon, Jake and Sherry jump on snowmobiles and head down the snow cover mountain to escape an avalanche brought on by the explosions. As they race down the hill the avalanche draws near and they avoid it narrowly as the video comes to an end. Jake’s gameplay seems to be a mixture of action and horror seemingly causing a major adrenaline rush.

Below are the videos themselves. Resident Evil 6 will be available on October 2, 2012.

Ada Wong Announced As Playable Character In Resident Evil 6

Capcom has announced that a fourth playable campaign will be available in Resident Evil 6. Players will have the option to play this fourth campaign featuring villain Ada Wong, only available after completing the other three campaigns (Leon, Chris, and Jake). By playing the Ada Wong campaign, players will gain more insight to the story – things that may be missed while playing as the other characters. Ada Wong, unlike the other characters of the game, runs solo – she has no co-op partner. Ada Wong also wields a crossbow and a zip-line, allowing her to access areas that were previously unacceptable in the other campaigns.

Resident Evil 6 will be released along side this special anthology edition on October 2, 2012 and if you have $30 extra to spend, it might be something to look into. The anthology edition will include Resident Evil games of the past as well as the new Resident Evil 6. It will be released on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 but they are a bit different from each other. The Ps3 version comes with 6 games while the Xbox 360 version comes with 4 games and the Resident Evil: Degeneration CG movie.

The total will come to $89.99 and it will include:
