So the genre categories are past us, now it’s time to jump right into individual categories. Today’s category is all about my favorite classic game, which is super fun. It’s also tough, I mean where do I even start? I began gaming as soon as I would hold a controller and press the buttons, games have been a part of my life ever since I can remember. So what single game can I pick as my favorite? I narrowed it down to a few choices, and one ultimately prevailed, as it should have. My favorite classic game is none other than:

The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past

Ah, the good old days. The days when graphics and online features weren’t even thought of and gaming was all about quality storyline and enticing gameplay. Link to the Past (LttP) had it all, neat story and fun gameplay. I remember spending a lot of time on this game, and the memories of my time playing are endless. I adored the simplicity of the classic Zelda game, and don’t get me wrong – Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask were fantastic but when I think of Zelda I think of Lttp. In this game it was Link’s mission to save the princess (obviously) and rid of the land of evil. One of the things that I have always found so cool about LttP was the different worlds. There was a light world and a dark world, both were similar but very different. The look of the worlds was the main difference, the light world was the normal world in which trees were green, people walked the streets, and all that jazz. The dark world was just as it sounds, dark. Everything had an old, dated, brown quality to it and there were enemies everywhere and it was all bad. Link needed a special mirror to teleport in between dimensions, and you had to go in between them at times to find certain things and enter certain dungeons. It was awesome, for a game of it’s time.

The Dark World

There are many cool characteristics that I could name off that I love about LttP but I think it’s better not to. You want to know why  Simple. No, that’s just it, it’s simple and that’s what I love about it. It wasn’t about how technically superior it was or whatever, but it’s old and it wasn’t superior. It was just fun and enjoyable. I’m sure that all of you who played this as a child have your own memories of it, and I hope they are happy because mine are. I love a good dungeon crawl and while I hate Nintendo now, I can never deny that the Zelda series is amazing and has the best and only dungeon crawling I accept 100%. Not all games do it right and I don’t know, sometimes it gets boring, but I never got tired of it when playing LttP.

If you have yet to play this game, I feel bad for your childhood because it must have been lackluster. I can suggest something to you though, if you have never played LttP and you have a PS3 go out and grab yourself a copy of a game called 3D Dot Game Heroes. It’s very similar to this game, and a lot of fun.

Honorable Mention:

Final Fantasy VII
