My 5 Favorite PlayStation 3 Exclusives

The PlayStation 3 gave us a plentiful amount of exclusive titles that not only made folks like me want to buy the console in the first place, but kept us coming back to the console for more immersive stories and excitement. It’s arguable that the PlayStation 3 had the best console exclusives of all the last generation consoles and I would say that for myself, at least, this is entirely true. Of course the Xbox 360 and the Wii had a good deal of awesome exclusive titles but I couldn’t name five from either that I truly enjoyed, unless you count multiple games in the same series.

I didn’t include multiple games in the same series in this list though, since by doing that I would have left out some other great games. It was hard enough picking just five. The few that are part of multigame series are simply my favorite titles in their respective series. Also, these are placed in no particular order, just a heads up. The five games below made the final cut, taking their place as my favorite PlayStation 3 exclusives.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune:

UnchartedDF-1

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is the reason I wanted to buy a PlayStation 3 in the first place. As a huge fan of the Tomb Raider series and the action/adventure genre in general I knew that the Uncharted series would be right up my ally. This was among the first games I played for the console and I’ll never forget how much fun I had playing it. The characters, the narrative, the entire game for that matter is just outrageously awesome. I was taken aback by how well done the game was as a whole, it was just so enticing and made me want to keep on playing – eagerly awaiting sequels once I finished. It’s just an all around fantastic game, one which I still play to this day from time to time between new game releases.

Beyond: Two Souls:

BeyondTS-1

Beyond: Two Souls was one of my favorite games from the year 2013 and also happens to be one of the best PlayStation 3 games out there, in my opinion of course. Beyond takes is place as one of my favorite PlayStation 3 exclusives for a couple of reasons, one of the main reasons being that it’s a different kind of gameplay experience. I really love how Quantic Dream makes super interactive narrative experiences. I almost chose Heavy Rain for this slot but felt that I enjoyed Beyond just a bit more, though both games are really amazing. Another reason I really love this game is the great voice and motion capture work done but the ever so talented Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. All in all I really adored this game from start to finish.

LittleBigPlanet:

LittleBigPlanet is another that was among the first games I played on the PlayStation 3. It was actually the first game I played cooperatively on the PlayStation 3, which was such a fun experience. That fun experience is why LittleBigPlanet means so much to me. The sackpeople are just so adorable and I loved to customize them. The worlds are so cute and creative, playing around in them for hours was so enjoyable. I really liked making my own world too. It kind of sucked compared to some of the other awesome user-created worlds but hey, I enjoyed making it and playing through it. LittleBigPlanet is just a great game, hands down, and it’s sequel was also amazing. It provided me with many hours of entertainment and is definitely one of the best PlayStation 3 exclusives.

inFAMOUS:

InFAMOUS was something entirely new to me when I played it. As with most new IP’s, the narrative was completely fresh and the gameplay was totally different from anything I had really ever played – unless you break it down to its core 3rd person action/adventure elements of course. I really loved the direction this game took, mainly since it was the first game I had ever played that used a morality system to make dramatic in-game choices. Overall I just really enjoyed the entire gameplay/narrative experience that the game had to offer. I appreciate this series as a whole but the first game is my favorite, though it’s a super close race among the three titles. InFAMOUS is most assuredly one of the best games available for the PlayStation 3 and obviously one of my personal favorites.

The Last of Us:

TheLastOfUs

Any of you who have a PlayStation 3 had to have guessed this would make my list. The Last of Us is without a doubt one of the best, most highly regarded PlayStation 3 titles available. As for my personal opinion, I think it goes without saying that this game deserves all the praise and awards it was given and definitely earn a place in my heart. The Last of Us is one of the best games I have ever played in my entire gaming career. It has a top-notch narrative built upon strong, fully realized characters and an intense plot. I love the emotional core of the story as well as the art direction and soundtrack. Honestly, there isn’t really anything about this game that I didn’t care for, except the multiplayer but that’s just a matter of preference.

So there you have it, my top five favorite PlayStation 3 titles. These are the games that I always recommend playing when folks ask me what they should get upon buying a PlayStation 3 for the first time. The console itself has been good to me over the years and has obviously given me plenty of games to play and enjoy. What are some of your favorite PlayStation 3 exclusive titles? Be sure to share them in the comment section! There are plenty to choose from.

  1. Honestly I got a PS3 to play Demon Souls. I’m not a fan of Uncharted but I can see how people enjoy that game. I just thought it was more annoying than enjoyable though. After I realized that I was just buying the same games that I could get on Xbox or PC I sold my PS3 and haven’t went back to it yet.
