16 Things I am Looking Forward to in 2016

2016

January 2016 is coming to an end and for me that means the new year has officially settled in. I’ve gotten used to saying/writing/seeing/hearing 2016 instead of 2015 and the post-Christmas blues have disappeared. Now, with February looming ever closer, it’s time to look forward into the new year and relish in what it has to offer. As gamer and overall nerd I must say that 2016 appears to be a promising year as far as video games, television shows, films and other fun things go and I’d really like to talk a bit about the things I am excited for. So let’s take a look at the things I am looking forward to in the year 2016.

  1. Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice: As a big time Batman fan and someone who really enjoyed director Zack Snyder’s take on Superman in Man of Steel, I have been super excited about this film since its announcement. Henry Cavill makes a great Superman/Clark Kent and I think Ben Affleck will make a fantastic Batman/Bruce Wayne, plus Aquaman and Wonder Woman look great.
  2. Captain America: Civil War: Marvel Studios films have yet to disappoint me and this film looks keep that streak going. Plus, it’s jam packed with even more awesome superheroes than any other film before it. Civil War is definitely a must watch film this year.
  3. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: It’s Star Wars so, duh? Yeah, I’m hyped.
  4. Suicide Squad: The DC fan in me definitely wants to see this but otherwise I’m a tad skeptical. If nothing else I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how this film turns out. I’m excited to see what the actors can bring to the table with such well known characters. Also, Katana is in it which makes me really happy.
  5. Passengers: Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt in space. Need I say more?
  6. More from all my favorite TV shows: I’m watching a lot right now and most of them have already started back up for this year. In order to save space on this list I decided to smash them all into one section so here it goes. I’m excited to see more Supernatural, The Flash, Arrow, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, The Shannara Chronicles, Daredevil and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
  7. More of my favorite comic books: As with the television shows, a lot of what I have been reading has already began for the year or started last year. So here is what I’m currently reading and what I look forward to seeing more of this year: Spider Gwen, Silk, Angela: Queen of Hel, A-Force, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man/Deadpool, Hellcat, Spider-Woman, Batman & Robin Eternal, Midnighter, DC’s Bombshells, Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death, Batman Europa, Starfire, Black Canary and probably a few others I am forgetting.
  8. Uncharted 4: Of course I am totally looking forward to this game! I love the series, I adore Nathan Drake and this game just looks freaking awesome.
  9. Unravel: Since this game was announced I have been really excited about it. It looks innovative, cute and really enjoyable.
  10. Layers of Fear: Polygon described this game as “P.T. on drugs” last year so I just have to play it. Not only does the narrative sound intriguing but it looks like a great horror game, so I’m totally all over it.
  11. Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst: I was not a fan of the first Mirror’s Edge game but it wasn’t because I disliked the story or characters, something about the gameplay just wasn’t to my liking. Catalyst appears to have remedied the things I didn’t like (judging by the trailers/articles) and kept the aspects I did like, so I’m looking forward to giving this one a fair shot!
  12. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided: Much like Mirror’s Edge, I wasn’t a fan of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It wasn’t the story or the characters though, I loved those, but the gameplay annoyed me in a lot of ways for a variety of picky, stupid reasons. Long story short, this one seems to have smoothed out the things I didn’t like before so I’m really looking forward to playing it.
  13. Lots of other games: There are a lot of games that have been announced to release in 2016 yet have no confirmed date. Many of these games are games that I want but with delays becoming inevitable (and understandable, no shade from me) it’s hard to single these out. So here is a list of the games I definitely want but am not sure when they will release, exactly: Allison Road, Dishonored 2, Doom, Final Fantasy XV, Gears of War 4, Gravity Rush 2, Hellblade, Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian, Mass Effect Andromeda, No Man’s Sky, Outlast 2, The Walking Dead: Michonne and many others which have yet to be announced I’m sure.
  14. E3 2016: E3 is always fun, but after last year’s amazing conferences and all the awesome announcements and whatnot I’m super excited to see what this year’s show has to offer. Can 2016 top the “year of dreams” or will it fall flat? I can’t wait to find out.
  15. Sailor Moon Crystal – Season 2: I really liked how Sailor Moon Crystal has been going so far. I feel that it being a more streamlined and fast paced show (compared with the original series) is refreshing and the new animation style is super pretty. I’m totally looking forward to seeing more of my favorite anime ladies this year!
  16. All things yet to come: It’s hard to say now what I am looking forward to most considering there is probably a lot of stuff that has yet to even be announced. So here’s to a great year full of awesome possibilities and even cooler things to nerd out about!

What are some of the things you are most looking forward to this year? Be sure to comment, Tweet at me or send me a message on Facebook and let me know!

  1. Well, for me, Fire Emblem Fates is most definitely something I’m looking forward to.

But that was a bit too easy. I’m also looking forward to Civil War, seeing Daredevil S2 and Luke Cage, and finally seeing Bran return in Game of Thrones. Just what the heck has he been up to?!?
