One of the things I was most looking forward to at this year’s San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) was more information about the upcoming DC films. I was really hoping for at least a trailer for Wonder Woman, which is set to release next year, as well as some more information on the other films or goings on the film making department. Imagine my excitement when I was pleasantly surprised by not just one, but two brand new trailers for the DC cinematic universe. Today fans received a Justice League first look trailer as well as a new trailer for Wonder Woman. Both trailers can be viewed below:
Both trailers are a good length and show a fair amount of detail for their respective films. In the Wonder Woman trailer we see a both life on Themyscira as well as some action in World War I. We are introduced to characters such as Hippolyta, Steve Trevor and Etta Candy. We are also given a general idea of what tone to expect from this film without too much being given away. I felt this was a great trailer and really upped the hype for the movie, one which fans have been excited for since its announcement given that this will be the first female comic book heroine to receive a stand alone feature film in recent history.
The Justice League trailer was more of a first look at the characters rather than a comprehensive trailer which teases plot, setting, etc. In the trailer we see Barry Allen AKA The Flash as well as Arthur Curry AKA Aquaman for the first time in detail, giving us an idea of what to expect from these characters. Curry appears brash and confrontational while Allen is his typically goofy self. We are also shown Victor Stone AKA Cyborg for the first time, speaking lines and all, as well as some dialog between Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Diana Prince (Wonder Woman). It seems as if Prince and Wayne have paired up as buddies in their quest to assemble the Justice League. There was no footage of Clark Kent (Superman) in this trailer but given the tease that he is still alive at the end of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice as well as his appearance on the film’s poster, it’s safe to assume that he will show up later on – possibly even in future trailers. What was great about this trailer was how it introduced character personalities as well as continued the narrative between characters we’ve already been introduced to. On top of all that there was some humor to be seen and a general light-heartedness to the trailer which will no doubt appeal to the crowd who was looking for a little bit of the Marvel flair in the DC films.
Overall, both trailers were fantastic and I really can’t wait to see more of what is in store for DC cinematic universe.
